Being Proactive And Not Just Reactionary To The Ills Of Our Black Community

We Have To Make Our Own Neighborhoods Safe & Decent Places To Live

Bro. Mustafaa Abdul Muhammad

In The Name of ALLAH, The Beneficent, The Merciful

My personal goal for my activity within the community is to be much more PROACTIVE instead of REACTIVE.

We have to get out of our church buildings, Mosque buildings, organization buildings and go straight to the problem in our streets head on.

PROACTIVE as an adjective is defined as: "Acting in advance to deal with an expected difficulty."

REACTIVE as an adjective is defined as: "acting in response to a situation rather than creating or controlling it."

The basic problems of our black communities are a ever looping cycle.

Two years ago(2-26-12) it was Trayvon Martin, a year later it was Jordan Davis and one day soon it will be another young brother as long as we are REACTIVE instead of PROACTIVE.

We get mad for about "two weeks" march, cry, fuss, picket for justice from the white man and so on.

Then our emotions subside and we go back to business as usual until the next tragedy happens and then we repeat the cycle(wash, rinse, repeat) of being mad, crying out and picketing.

THEY KNOW ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS WAIT US OUT TILL WE SHUT UP. When we don't keep up the pressure they know they got away and can continue to get away with their injustices.

We, who know better, have to be found much more PROACTIVE in working to produce the change we want to see.

 * If the police Captain or Sheriff wont attend to the violence(black on black killings) in our streets then WE should be PROACTIVE as men and do it ourselves to make our streets a safe and decent place to live for our women, children and elderly.

* If we are mad that they wont teach our black history in schools then let's be PROACTIVE and set up means outside of the school hours to make sure our contributions to history are taught to the children in our community.

* If we are mad about the job situation then why don't we be PROACTIVE, pool our money together as a community and open our own business to employ ourselves.

* If we are mad about the conditions of our neighborhood/community then dont wait on someone else to correct it. Let's be PROACTIVE and find likeminded persons to sweep the dirt in front of our own house first.

I can go on and on and on, but the point is let's stop being REACTIVE to the ills and start being PROACTIVE to stop our problems before they become bigger problems.
