The Confederate Flag, The American Flag And The Meaning Of Fourth Of July For Black People

Friday, July 03, 2015Mustafaa Abdul Muhammad

"I have heard it said that we teach that under the flag of America we receive suffering, slavery and finally death. Why, this is true as the existence of the American flag on our part, according to their own history written concerning our welfare under their flag. Today, the government is trying to force the recognition of the so-called Negroes equally with the true white citizens of America. This the South objects to, which makes it again abundantly true that the poor once slaves have actually suffered slavery and death under the stars and stripes of America and numerous other cruelties and death which hardly be put into writing." The Most Hon. Elijah Muhammad

With all of the uproar over the confederate flag, The Hon. Louis Farrakhan has courageously asked us(Black Americans) to apply the same scrutiny to the American flag as we do to the rebel flag.

If we will condemn the rebel flag for it's racist history then we have to be courageous enough to admit we have suffered the same and worse under "old glory". This is not meant to imply that we should disrespect the U.S. flag, burn it, trample on it or in any other way desecrate the symbol of a sovereign nation. Yet, we must not delude ourselves with patriotism and neglect the hell caught under such a flag.

Under the flag of the United States of America we have suffered the following,

* Emmit Till was tortured and murdered
* Black men, women and children were lynched and burned at the stake
* Estimates of 3000 blacks were murdered when bombs were dropped on the Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Ok
* From 1932 to 1972 the infamous Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment was ran on unsuspecting black men
* Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey, Medgar Evers, The Black Panthers and other were either murdered or jailed under cointel pro
*Patrice Lumumba, the democratically elected president of the Congo, was assassinated with American assistance
* In the 70's the government flooded our communities with Herion using Flunkies like Frank Lucas and in the 80's spread Crack Concaine using Flunkies like Freeway Rick Ross
* Today black men are being killed by police and the court system are freeing such killers
We could go on and on, but I think the point has been made!

We have to learn how to be in the world(America), but not of the world(America). We are not leaving America anytime soon, so we will function within her, yet we can still be our own unique individual self striving for our enlightened best interest.

The Meaning Of The Fourth Of July Explained By Fredrick Doulglass

"Fellow-citizens, pardon me, allow me to ask, why am I called upon to speak here to-day? What have I, or those I represent, to do with your national independence? Are the great principles of political freedom and of natural justice, embodied in that Declaration of Independence, extended to us? and am I, therefore, called upon to bring our humble offering to the national altar, and to confess the benefits and express devout gratitude for the blessings resulting from your independence to us?

What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer; a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciation of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are, to Him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy-a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of the United States, at this very hour." Fredrick Douglas

While it can be argued that much has changed for black people in America since Fredrick Douglas uttered the above words. Some will point to the election of our first black president as proof. Others will point to advancement in sports, Hollywood and corporate America as the proof. Yet, others will point out the freedom to marry interracially as the ultimate proof things has changed.

Those are all notable gains in their own right, however the Bible teaches, "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?" So, while we advance materially/socially the essence of who we are as black people continuously deteriorates into moral degeneracy. Our families went from over 70% married structure in the 60's to over 70% single female headed today. We see the results of the family breakdown in our children. We witness our communities and neighborhoods turn from safe havens to literal war zones with the hate, violence and black on black killings. We now see the blatant murder of our men, women and children by wicked police officers and the crooked judges who let them go. We see the murder of 9 brothers and sisters within their church and we see the burning of 6 churches. So, what has changed?

We have confused "individual success" with "black success". The Hon. Elijah Muhammad has taught us: "One man cannot rise above the condition of his people." Therefore, we can beam with pride over all the achievements members of our race have achieved, yet we still have to look at the horrific realty the majority still live under.

In 2015 and beyond we have to seek real independence and not just be happy shooting fireworks/enjoying barbecue on someone else's "independence day". We have to become independent in the black community where we own the businesses, own the schools, control the politics, own the stores, police our communities and own our land.

We can learn a lesson from the Caucasians who left Europe and later separated from Great Britain. The colonies who later became the United States were willing to separate and fight to the death to secure their freedom. One of their famous men said: GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH! They didn't integrate, they didn't love those who had a foot on their neck... They left and became independent of Britain. As black people we should want nothing less than to be FREE & INDEPENDENT people.

The Hon. Louis Farrakhan spoke on the reality of us living in America, yet working towards true freedom and independence during the 16th anniversary of The Million Man March in Philadelphia

Farrakhan, do you think we should integrate, or do you think we should separate? Or do you think we should have some of both?” How is that possible? You know, The Enemy is so smart, because he uses a trick called “integration.” This “integration” that we now have: This is not what Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement was about! They didn’t want “nice relationships with White folk” as opposed to equal justice under the law and fair treatment...

Now let me tell you what real integration is: Here’s a man and woman, two different beings; maybe of the same race even, same ethnicity. When that sperm is emitted, and it finds the egg; and the first cell of life is created, the body wants to reject it, because it’s a foreign entity in your body. But the sperm that has now met the egg, and has become the first cell of life, the Qur’an said it has to find a “firm resting place.”

So now, the cell of life clings to the walls of the uterus, and holds on against rejection. After a while, rejection stops, acceptance comes, and the new life is growing within the womb of a life that’s already been here, drawing from that life to build up its own life.

It has become a part of, but it is growing into something independent; that one day after development, it is going to breathe on its own, it’s going to demand to come forth out of the womb, and the umbilical cord has to be cut!

And then the baby has to be washed and swaddled and salted; and then grows into a new creature independent from, separated from, the mother out of which it came! That’s integration that produces separation!"

The Nation of Islam was founded in "black bottom" Detroit on July 4th, 1930 on the coming of Master Fard Muhammad, who came from the East "seeking to save that which was lost." He came with a body of knowledge which ressurected our minds and put us on a path towards black freedom & independence. He, Master Fard Muhammad, raised up The Hon. Elijah Muhammad who gave us now The Hon. Louis Farrakhan who is announcing to the government of America: "Justice or Else!"

"I Bear Witness To The Man And His Works."
